Essentials

Getting around

Türkiye is large, but well connected. Domestic flights save time; coaches reach almost everywhere; the high-speed train links the main western cities.

01

By air

Istanbul (IST, SAW), Ankara, İzmir, Antalya, Dalaman, Bodrum, Kayseri, Nevşehir, Trabzon and Gaziantep are the main gateways. Book domestic flights early in high season.

02

By rail & coach

High-speed trains connect Istanbul to Ankara to Konya to Eskişehir. Overnight coaches are comfortable and extensive; use the otogar or official apps.

03

By car

Best for the Lycian coast, Cappadocia valleys, the Black Sea and eastern Anatolia. An international driving permit may be required. Mountain roads need care in winter.

04

In the city

Istanbul has metro, tram, ferry and bus with an Istanbulkart. İzmir and Ankara have metro networks. Use licensed taxis and ride-hailing apps where available.
