Overview

UNESCO sites and what they mean

Pamukkale is a cliff of white travertine fed by warm mineral springs; Hierapolis is the Roman spa city built above it. Come for the terraces, stay for the theatre, the necropolis and the ancient pool.

Pamukkale’s white travertine terraces are the reason most people come, but the Roman city of Hierapolis above them deserves equal time. The theater, the necropolis and the Temple of Apollo are within the site; the antique pool is a separate paid experience. Walk barefoot only on the marked paths to protect the travertines.
