Overview

UNESCO sites and what they mean

Arslantepe is a tell in Malatya with thousands of years of occupation and one of the earliest known palaces. Its seal archive and metalwork show a bureaucratic state taking shape long before the familiar empires.

Arslantepe is a deep tell near Malatya with a long sequence from the Chalcolithic to the Iron Age. Its Early Bronze Age palace and the famous swords are among the earliest evidence of a centralized state in the region. The site is compact and best visited with the Malatya museum.
