Ayder
Ayder is a high plateau of wooden houses, waterfalls and hot springs below the Kaçkar Mountains. It is a base for hiking, not just a stop for tea: walk to the waterfalls, take a jeep road higher up, and keep a layer for the evening. In winter it is quiet and often snowy.
Best time to visit: June to September for hiking; winter for snow and quiet.
Rize
Rize is the tea capital of Türkiye, with steep green slopes rising from the Black Sea. Ayder, the Fırtına valley, Çamlıhemşin and the Kaçkar highlands are the main draws, along with tea gardens and local cuisine.
