Side
Side is a small peninsula of Roman streets, a theatre, a temple of Apollo at the water's edge and beaches on both sides. It is easy and family-friendly, but it can feel like a resort. Stay in the old town if you want evenings without traffic, and walk to the temple at sunset.
Best time to visit: May to June and September to October; sunset at the temple is the moment.
Antalya
Antalya combines a working Mediterranean city with a coastline of beaches, cliffs and ancient harbours. Kaleiçi, Hadrian's Gate, the waterfalls and the nearby Roman cities of Perge and Aspendos make it a natural base for the Turquoise Coast.
